A Study on Eco-Campus City for Luang Prabang : Case Study of the University of Heidelberg

The study of Sustainable Development for Eco-Campus City explores best practices and experiences of campus as a city to make the higher education system, sustainable community, encouraging tourism and urban planning more sustainable. It represents the coexistence between urban campus and sustainable environment at the city level emphasizes urban sustainability. In other hand it can be urban planning guideline to protect many problems that can happen in the future from rapid growth of unplanned city. This thesis researches in important issues in terms of the economic growth, social community, and ecological aspects for future generations. A campus grows and evolves one important feature that is the idea of place-making and the creation of a sense of place, that would offer an abundance of parks and green-space, clean air and land, pedestrian-friendly streetscapes, trees, education center, that can be defined as a specific connection to the location and that illustrates an emotional bond to the neighborhood around the campus wall and also to the city. The purpose of this case study is to provide example of how model of sustainable development can be applied at the local level and serve as an alternative approach for economic development, conservation and encouragement of local culture, and social welfare. Eco-Campus City will be the center of education and health care. People have chance to experience higher education in better atmosphere of place-making. The natural landscape will be built in part of the downtown connects the old city and new city. An analysis of planning and urban design processes on Eco-Campus City will give the potential opportunity for the developing country. It is the most important procedure to make our future city as Sustainable Development City.
